CAR MOUNTS
Qi2 car mounts: what "MagSafe-compatible" actually means
The same two words are printed on a certified 15-watt charger and on a bare magnet that charges nothing. Below: what to look for, and what each brand actually claims on its own page, with the date we read it.
Three very different products sold as "MagSafe-compatible"
MagSafe is Apple's name for the ring of magnets on the back of its phones and the charging system that uses it. Qi2 is the open standard from the Wireless Power Consortium that adopted the same magnetic layout, so a Qi2 charger snaps to an iPhone the same way an Apple one does. That shared magnet ring is why a listing can say "MagSafe-compatible" and mean any of three very different products:
A magnet mount. Holds the phone. Charges nothing. Perfectly good if you only want a holder, and often the cheapest thing on the page, but if the listing does not name a wattage, this is probably what it is.
A magnetic Qi charger. Magnets plus an ordinary Qi coil. On an iPhone that typically means the slower non-magnetic Qi rate, not the 15W the magnets imply. The word "Qi" without a "2" is the tell.
A Qi2-certified charger. Certified to the magnetic profile, so a supported phone gets 15W, and on newer phones and chargers certified for Qi2 25W, up to 25W. This is the one the marketing wants you to picture, and it is the only one of the three that has a public registry you can check.
How we check a Qi2 claim
The Wireless Power Consortium publishes a database of every product it has certified, searchable by brand and model number. If a mount is Qi2-certified it is in there, with the power profile and the date it passed. If a brand says "Qi2" and we can find the entry, the table below says in registry. If we can only find the brand saying it, the table says brand's claim. Those are different facts and we do not blur them.
Compatibility is read the same way. We do not use retailer listings, which routinely pad the "fits" list with every phone released since 2020. We read the brand's own compatibility section, record exactly what it names, note anything it says is required (a magnetic case on Samsung phones is the common one), and stamp the date. If your phone is not on the brand's list, the honest answer is that the brand has not said it fits, whatever the listing claims.

Four things to check before you buy a car mount
Heat. Wireless charging produces heat, a dashboard in the sun produces more, and phones slow or pause charging when they get hot. A mount that advertises active cooling (a fan behind the coil) is addressing a real problem, not a made-up one. Brands that mention that the metal body gets warm in the sun are being straight with you; treat that as a point in their favor.
The car adapter. A 15W wireless charger needs more than 15W going in. Check whether the brand includes a car power adapter and what it is rated for, and if it does not include one, what it says you need. A Qi2 mount plugged into an old 5W cigarette-lighter adapter will not charge at Qi2 speeds, and the mount will get the blame.
Vent shape. Vent clips assume horizontal or vertical slats of roughly standard thickness. Round vents, very deep vents and some newer cars defeat them. Brands that state which vent types the clamp supports are, again, the ones being useful; a dash-adhesive or suction mount avoids the question entirely at the cost of a permanent position.
Your case. Magnetic alignment needs magnets in the case or a bare phone. Any case that is not itself MagSafe or Qi2 magnetic will weaken the hold and may block charging entirely. Brands' compatibility pages usually say this; listings usually do not.
What we verified, and what we have not tested
We have not driven with these mounts. All three are vent clips: we have not checked any dash-adhesive or suction-cup mount and cannot say how one would compare. This page verifies what each brand claims about fit, output and certification, and shows you when we checked. It does not tell you how the clamp survives a pothole or how warm the phone gets in August. Where we later use one ourselves, the page will say so and describe what we did. Until then, the claims here are the brand's, checked against the source, and nothing more.
